Moon into Pisces: Pushing Off into Deeper Water

Monday afternoon through Thursday morning

The Moon swims into Pisces today (4:45pm EDT), creating a mood of reflection, intuition, spiritual connection, and possibly vague fuzziness as well. The Moon's first move in Pisces will be to join Neptune, ruler of Pisces, enhancing and deepening all Piscean qualities.

We're in the time of the Summer Solstice, as the Sun stands still (the meaning of sol-stice) for about three days at its highest point in the sky. In the Northern hemisphere, this is the longest day, the time when the Sun reaches maximum exposure and intensity.

So it's interesting to reflect that this year's Solstice happens with the Moon in a Water sign, and note that the Solstice reaches its peak when the Sun moves into Cancer, Water sign and home of the Moon. Perhaps we're being reminded of the vital importance of water during the heat of summer, and of the need to balance Water's elemental receptivity and responsiveness with the direct action of Fire and Sun.

The Pisces Moon enhances dreams and visions. Tonight, Mars enters Gemini, and the Moon flows energy in sextile with Jupiter in Taurus. Watch for dreams that bring messages about what actions need to be taken, about practical matters of nurturing and generosity, or about the Earth itself.

The Moon also sextiles Pluto early Tuesday morning, followed later by a flowing trine with Mercury in Cancer, offering openings for transformative visions. The Sun enters Cancer at 1:16pm EDT, marking the Solstice hinge of the year and time to celebrate the abundance and fertility of the Earth.

Tuesday afternoon and evening bring challenges as Mercury squares Saturn, the Moon squares Venus, and Mars squares Neptune. These squares point to places where dynamic balance is needed, where communication needs to be clear, where dreams and reality need to be carefully harmonized. Challenges might emerge in relationships, creativity or finances, and the best action might not be obvious.

The Moon's square with Venus is also her last classical aspect in Pisces, as the planets are now clustered in the early degrees of their signs. This creates a long void-of-course time, beginning at 10:51pm EDT Tuesday, lasting all through Wednesday, and ending when the Moon enters Aries at 4:24am Thursday.

The Sun, newly arrived in Cancer, will trine Neptune on Wednesday, while the Moon is void of course, setting us adrift in a time of meditation, a chance to feel our connection with all that is, while avoiding (if possible) beginning new enterprises.
