Scorpio Time: The Dark Half of the Year

The Sun moves into Scorpio now, unlocking a great hinge of the year. With Wednesday's New Moon in Scorpio, we enter the season of Samhain, one of the four Fire festivals of the ancient Celtic world. At this time of year, the veil between the worlds is thin. Ancestors and spirits are near, bringing messages and wanting to know they are remembered and honored.

We move from yang to yin, from the light half to the dark half of the year. We enter the realm of the boar and the Holly King, the time when Inanna removes all trappings of worldly power to visit her sister Ereshkigal, queen of the Scorpionic worlds of deep transformation.

The Scorpio New Moon is the lunar Samhain, to be followed by calendar Samhain on October 31, and solar Samhain on November 7, when the Sun reaches 15 degrees of Scorpio. Today's entry of the Sun into Scorpio heralds the turning of the year to a time of reflection, retreat, review and release.

We're in the last days of the waning Moon. Now's the time to prepare for this shift of energy. What are we ready to let go of? What do we no longer need? Sweep the hearth of the ashes that are burnt. Watch the raven and the crow as they fly. Let the old fires begin to die down. There is great power in this.
